Summer Is Either An Advantage Or A Setback
Summer is a funny thing.
For kids, it feels like freedom.
For parents, it often feels like a balancing act.
On one hand, we want our children to enjoy summer.
To relax, have fun and make memories.
And they should.
But here’s the reality:
Summer doesn’t just create opportunities.
It creates consequences.
Every summer, some children move ahead.
And some fall behind.
Not because they’re smarter or because they’re more talented.
But because of what they consistently do over the next 10-12 weeks.
Some children spend the summer growing.
- Growing stronger.
- Growing more confident.
- Growing more disciplined.
- Growing their leadership skills.
- Growing their friendships.
Others spend the summer mostly consuming.
- More screen time.
- Less structure.
- Less activity.
- Less growth.
And by the time school starts again, the gap is noticeable.
The good news?
Summer doesn’t have to be a setback.
In fact, it can become an advantage.
At KMMA, we encourage our students to use the summer to develop what we call the Blackbelt Superpowers:
- Focus.
- Respect.
- Discipline.
- Confidence.
- Gratitude.
- Vision.
These aren’t school subjects.
They’re life skills.
And unlike math or science, they don’t disappear over the summer unless we stop practicing them.
That’s why I encourage every parent reading this to ask a simple question:
“What will my child be better at by the end of summer?”
Not busier.
Not entertained.
Better.
More confident?
More disciplined?
More active?
More resilient?
More prepared for the next school year?
Because summer is going to pass either way.
The question is whether your child will simply get older…
Or whether they’ll grow.
At KMMA, we’re committed to helping them do both.
Prepare to Live. Empower to Lead.
