Making Friends
I got to spend some quality time this weekend with my grandson, Triton.
One of the things he wanted to do was for me to take him to Urban Air Adventure Park.
I did because, you know, I’m ‘Buelo (his Abuelo, which is to say Grandfather in Spanish, but this is what he has called me since he could speak so it’s still my name).
And to my fellow grandparents reading, you know we will do anything for our grandkids.
I really enjoyed the swimming with him this morning; he swims much better than I by the way. I got him lessons and he’s worked his way to level nine.
He swam better than me at like 4 or 5…
My time with him here is a bit less interactive, as he’s off playing, but he’s having fun and I am grateful for the wifi.
I’m writing to you while he plays.
He also inspired this writing, by the way.
Triton came up and told me he had made a friend, and then his friend joined us too.
One of the many things that I love about Triton is that he makes friends wherever he goes.
That is such a great skill and trait and will serve him well.
Having friends is so important too.
It’s another thing I love about our program at Krav Maga Martial Arts.
The students that train together here form bonds that serve many important functions.
One is just that they’re making friends, but another is that they’re making the right ones.
The kids (and adults for that matter) are all positive, courteous, kind and working together towards common worthy goals.
Loneliness and isolation is the pandemic today.
Getting kids around other kids, having fun and making friends is a good thing…
and if they happen to be learning, growing and developing character and leadership traits, fitness and self defense skills that will also serve them well the rest of their lives…
well that’s just great.
