What Are You Working Toward?
Sometimes we get so focused on what we’re dealing with right now that we forget what we’re working toward.
The class is hard.
The assignment is frustrating.
The goal feels far away.
The setback feels bigger than it should.
And we start asking:
“How hard is this?”
But there’s another question that can change the way we see the challenge:
“What am I trying to accomplish?”
That question brings the goal back into focus.
A difficult class feels different when you’re thinking about the black belt you’re working toward.
A difficult school assignment feels different when you’re thinking about the future you’re building.
A tough day feels different when you remember what you’re working to become.
The goal doesn’t make the obstacle disappear.
It gives the obstacle context.
That doesn’t mean every challenge becomes easy.
It means you understand why you’re willing to face it.
So when something feels difficult, take a moment to look beyond what’s directly in front of you.
Ask yourself:
What am I working toward?
Then ask:
What is the next thing I need to do?
You don’t have to solve everything today.
You don’t have to see the entire path.
You just need to remember where you’re going.
Because when you keep your eyes on the goal, the obstacle doesn’t get to define the journey.
The challenge is only one part of the story.
The goal is what gives the story direction.
