From the Mouths of Babes

Have you ever noticed how wise kids can sometimes be?

They can, when we ask the right questions.

I was so impressed by the discussion that I had with our Summer Campers this morning.

You can watch my video about it here.

And listen, as pertains to the topic of of circle of concern and circle of control, and the other Blackbelt Leadership principles that I talk about in the message above, I know it’s not always easy…

and I know bad things do happen.

In fact, sometimes we find ourselves in a pit…

But even then, it’s what we do about what happens that matters most.

KMMA Blackbelt Leadership student and summer camper (this one an adult who happens to also be a Principal Engineer Manager at Microsoft) told a great story during this morning’s discussion about two men who find themselves at the bottom of a pit.

They are in two separate pits, on either side of a tree that separates them. Both are pleading to God for help. Lightening strikes and part of the tree falls into each pit.

On the one side, they guy’s still pleading to God for help. The other guy builds a ladder from the the pieces of the tree and climbs out.

He said “sometimes we can be so caught up on our own pity, that we miss the solution right in front of us”.

We can’t control circumstances, but we can always choose our attitude and actions.

Well except when we can’t; this is of course a different discussion on emotional and also impulse control.

But even this begins with a choice to get better.

By the way, if you aren’t yet training at Krav Maga Martial Arts, it’d be a great choice to get started today!
