A Legacy I’m Grateful To Be Part Of

Yesterday, October 28, marked 26 years since Grandmaster Stephen Del Castillo founded KMMA USA.

And there was something incredibly special about the way he spent that day.

Rather than simply celebrating an anniversary, Grandmaster spent the day doing what he loves most:

Teaching, coaching, mentoring, and investing in his students.

I had the privilege of being at our Port Richey academy yesterday, documenting two of the classes that evening and seeing Grandmaster do what he has dedicated much of his life to doing.

Sharing his knowledge.
Offering guidance.
Challenging students to grow.
And reminding them that what they learn on the mat reaches far beyond it.

One of the things I love about watching Grandmaster teach is how he brings humor and personality into his lessons.

He has a way of making important principles stick while keeping students engaged, connected, and smiling.

He recognizes individual strengths, celebrates what students are doing well, and gently coaches them to refine their techniques.

He finds ways to encourage each student while continuing to challenge them to grow.

As I watched him teach, I found myself reflecting on the person I see in front of me:

My leader, my boss, and my mentor.

I see someone who has dedicated decades to learning, growing, and sharing his knowledge with others. And I can feel that dedication in the way he teaches, encourages, and invests in each student.

There is something pretty special about learning from someone whose leadership inspires me and whose desire to help others and make a difference in their lives resonates so deeply with me.

Over the years, Grandmaster has shared his knowledge and experience with thousands of students, helping them build confidence, grow as individuals, and discover what they are truly capable of achieving.

And those lessons reach far beyond martial arts. They influence how students face challenges, how they carry themselves, how they lead, and how they approach everyday life.

That kind of impact doesn’t happen overnight.

It is built class by class, lesson by lesson, and student by student.

It is built through years of showing up, believing in people, and helping them recognize who they can become.

And yesterday, in Port Richey, I was reminded that this legacy isn’t just about the 26 years behind us.

It’s very much about every student who walks through those doors today, every lesson that stays with them long after class ends, and every life that will be changed in the years ahead.

I feel incredibly grateful to be part of the KMMA team and Tribe, and to be part of a story that is still being written.

Thank you, Grandmaster, for the example you continue to set for all of us who learn from you.

And congratulations on 26 years of KMMA. What you’ve built over these decades has touched thousands of lives, and your legacy continues to grow.

Twenty-six years in, the mission continues.

Here’s to the next chapter, and to all the lives still to be empowered.
