What Do You See?

As you read this Wednesday morning, Barb and I are actually on our way back from Hiawasee Georgia, where we took a little time off with friends.

I wrote this Tuesday morning so you’d still have something to read. 🙂

I hope you like it.

Anyway, over coffee this morning, Barb made an observation that sparked my meditation that led to this writing.

That’s not uncommon by the way.

It’s one of the many things I enjoy about my awesome wife.

The view is somewhat uncommon though…

we are not often able to take our coffee from the top of a mountain overlooking such a great view.

But on this day, it’s what we were able to do.

And that led to Barb’s observation which led to this blog.

Barb noticed that the further mountains looked as though they were just covered by grass, though the closer ones were obviously covered by trees.

She wondered if the further ones were also trees, but just looked different for how far away they are.

I believe this is probably true.

And I believe it’s true for us in many other situations too.

In goal setting and in life, too, things far away often seem different than they truly are.

Perhaps, in fact, we often fail to do all we could do, or perhaps even all we should do, because we lack the Vision too.

Just as we can’t see the trees with the vision provided by our eyes, we sometimes can’t see what’s truly possible, or how far we can go, or what we could and should do because our Vision (with the capital V) isn’t strong enough.

Vision is the 6th foundational Blackbelt Superpower that we teach in my program and I wrote about in my book.

It’s also the limiting factor on what we can accomplish…..

don’t get me wrong, all of the Blackbelt Superpowers are essential: Focus, Respect, Discipline, Confidence, Gratitude and Vision.

But Vision determines how far we will go.

Now, like all the powers, Vision gets stronger with time and practice.

And, like with the tree-tops on the mountain, as we get closer, we will always see more.

If we were to hike to the top of the closer mountains, we would see the previously distant ones more clearly too…

the same is true with goals and accomplishments.

We’ll be back at the academy tomorrow.

   Can’t wait to see you.
