What Did You Do This Morning?
Krav’s taking a nap after our morning knowledge walk.
We did the 3 miles around the lake in about 50 minutes.
Def not the Army standard I used to run, but a good enough pace to tucker him out.
And the habit is so good for us.
We both get exercise, and the walk gets his energy out, while honing mine for a productive day.
On this morning’s walk, I was enjoying Your Next Five Moves by Patrick-Bet David.
“Reading” great books through audible is part of what makes the knowledge walk habit so productive and stimulating for me.
On this morning’s walk, about 0800 this morning, I walked by several people starting their day smoking- some cigarettes and others marijuana.
I’m not in the business of judging.
In fact, I truly believe in the right of each and all to make their own decisions.
One of the blessings of living in a free country is, well, freedom.
But, while we all have a right to choose, we don’t get to choose the repercussions.
We get to choose what we do, what we think, what we consume, who we associate with, and other decisions that then determine the trajectory of our life- based on the results of the choices that we made and the habits we developed.
By the way, I am aware that the lesson I am sharing isn’t particularly easy…
especially if you have already developed unhealthy addictions.
Most of us have made bad decisions, and/or developed unhealthy addictions at some time in our life.
Some get better at both- making better decisions and shaking unhealthy addictions.
I’d like to share 3 important steps to changing behavior:
1. You have to absolutely decide! You have to commit. To succeed at anything, we must decide and commit to the point that we cut off all alternatives. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
2. It’s easier to replace bad habits with positive ones. It’s why our character development program encourages students to replace unhealthy eating choices with more positive ones, on the healthy eating character worksheet; or electronic diversions with healthier ones on our “turn it off” sheet. Incidentally, we reward students with stripes, medals and trophies as they make the positive choices that lead to positive habits through the program….. ultimately, of course, the habits are the reward!
3. Get a tribe! When we associate with a tribe of like minded people, trying to be better and encouraging each other towards the accomplishment of their goals, we have a far greater chance of success!
For all of you already in the KMMA tribe, congratulations and keep up the great work!
If you’re not yet, you can choose to do so here.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
And the journey that yields the pain of same continues without it.
