Humble, Hungry and Smart

I read a great book by Patrick Lencioni a couple of years ago called The Ideal Team Player.

I highly recommend it.

I liked it so much that it became one of our core books at Krav Maga Martial Arts.

If you lead people, you should read this book.

And, if you work for an organization, you may want to consider reading it too, because all leaders are really looking for team players, and being one helps you stand out and get along better with peers, leaders and those that report to you too.

So, what are the elements of the ideal Team player?

They are humble, hungry, and smart.

Humility means focusing on the greater good, instead of focusing on yourself or having an inflated ego. Humble people are willing to own up to their failures or flaws, apologize for their mistakes, accept others’ apologies, and can sincerely appreciate others’ strengths/skills. It’s the most important trait of being a great team player.

Being hungry means that you always seek more, e.g., to do more, learn more, or take on more responsibility.  Hungry people are self-motivated to work hard, take initiative and go beyond their call of duty.

Smart (or people-smart)

This means having common sense about people, i.e., being aware of and perceptive about other people, asking good questions, listening well, and knowing how to respond effectively.

We are currently hiring by the way, as well as training tomorrow’s leaders today.

If you’re interested in learning more about a career with KMMA, or our Certified Instructor Training (CIT) program wherein we train up our amazing instructor team, email me at

Our CIT is amazing for youth and teens as it prepares them for a successful career here, but also with the leadership skills to succeed at whatever calling they choose to pursue.

We’re also interviewing for a Program Director right now.

You can see the mission description in my blog on ikigai of you want.

I have a few great candidates in the process already and plan to decide and hire within the next few weeks.

Thanks in advance if you know a great candidate.
