About the Rings…
This weekend, after the Blackbelt Leadership Awards Dinner for students of my Blackbelt Leadership Program, my grandson came over for a sleepover.
He loves Marvel movies.
We watched Avengers End Game Saturday night after the awards dinner and Shang Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings this morning.
I’m writing this Sunday afternoon while he’s playing; we’re at Urban Air Adventure Park, which he also loves.
Anyway, I had been hesitant about watching the ten rings movie until now.
I’m more into realistic martial arts, like the Krav Maga we teach at KMMA than movie martial arts usually, but I have to admit I enjoyed the martial arts aspect of the movie as well as the story.
The scene where Shang Chi’s fighting the bad guys was reminiscent of Jackie Chan’s Big Brawl to me…
and, if I’m being honest, the magical creatures and such (and especially the Dragon) of the Neverending story, which is also nostalgic.
Having said that, it’s of course true that the kind of martial arts that make for a good superhero movie don’t at all resemble the kind that are useful for real world self defense.
This is irrelevant, of course, as the purpose of the movie is to entertain, and it does that well.
It’s relevant to my point though, as you will soon see.
My school does teach the most practical self defense and it in no way resembles movie martial arts.
Our self defense system is martial art for real world self defense.
The movie of course is a superhero movie, with supernatural villains and heroes, as well as magic, myth and mythical characters and creatures.
All great for the movies, and none relevant to the real world.
But now I’m on to my second point.
We do develop superpowers at KMMA.
The superpowers our Blackbelt heroes develop and display, though, are for the real world too.
They are Focus, Respect, Discipline, Confidence, Gratitude and Vision.
They are real world superpowers for real world superheroes to use in real workld life, to create superhero results.
You can learn more about the KMMA Blackbelt Superpowers in my book or in my Skool Community course.
Or better yet, begin superhero training for you and your kids today!
