This week at the dojo I am teaching from Chapter one of my book and, specifically, on the first Blackbelt Leadership Superpower-

   Focus.

There are three levels of Focus development that we train every student in on the way to Blackbelt Leadership Excellence.

Any one of these is sufficient to put the budding Blackbelt heads and shoulders beyond his or her peers;

but with all three, the then Blackbelt Leader will be equipped for success at any and all of the academic, personal, professional challenges and objectives that will come in life.

When the Blackbelt Leader has developed command of all 3 faces of Focus, he or she truly wields superpower to accomplish the great goals and callings this leader will inevitably pursue.

• The first level of Focus is also called concentration. It is the ability to block out distractions and concentrate on what’s important. Team KMMA utilizes many methods to develop this first level of Focus in students, and especially kids, beginning in the very first class and through our Basic Training Course. Students will have shown amazing progress on this level of Focus to qualify to move beyond Basic Training and into our elite Blackbelt Leadership Training Course.

• The second level of Focus is the conscious and deliberate Focus of what and who we allow to influence us. We focus our own thoughts, attitudes and behaviors largely by the things we watch and listen to, the books we read and the group we associate with. Unfortunately for most people these forces act upon them, their present and their future, largely without their consent or control; but when we learn to be selective about the voices we are listening to, we also focus our mind and our superpowers to accomplish far more in life than those distracted by the multitude of media competing for our attention. By the time students have spent some considerable time in Blackbelt Leadership development, they are well on their way to being the curators of their own education, association and consequent attitudes and outputs in life! 

• The third and highest level of Focus is the ability to create the future through our thoughts. It is the partner of Vision that allows one with this superpower to literally create their reality. Every invention, creation, organization and major accomplishment was a Vision in someone’s mind before it manifested in reality. Every very successful person understands, and wields, this power. This is the Blackbelt Leader level of Focus, acquired after several years of training and development.

About Grandmaster Stephen J. Del Castillo: Grandmaster Del Castillo is the founding Master Instructor of Krav Maga Martial Arts and has been empowering lives in Pasco and Hillsborough Counties since October of 2000. He is a 7th degree Blackbelt, MBA, author, mentor and success coach, a US Army Veteran and a proud father and grandfather. He is married to Ms. Barbara Del Castillo who helps him run the school. Grand Master Del Castillo began his training in the early 80’s and has high level blackbelts in Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Premier Martial Arts and Krav Maga Martial Arts as well as experience in kickboxing, Jeet Kune Do and Jiujitsu. He has high level instructor certifications from BBSI, IKMF, and KMG and has been featured in numerous Martial Arts publications and also Success magazine. He was a competitive sport karate and American Kickboxing instructor until he enlisted in the US Army where he served in the 82nd Airborne Division, where he won an Army Green to Gold scholarship and proceeded to ROTC and the University of Tampa. He was commisioned in 1992 and went on to serve in Germany with the 3rd Infantry Division and then in several other posts in the US until he left military service to pursue his dream of creating KMMA in 2000.
