Yes, that was also a subject line meant specifically to get you to read on, but it also happens to be largely true.
We live in an age where some put higher value on people’s “feelings” than on productivity, or even sometimes on what’s right.
But that’s not the focus of this blog, because I don’t teach on socio-political matters, but on principles, attitude and techniques that affect our personal quest for human excellence.
In this, your feelings don’t matter; which is not to say that I don’t care about your feelings or that your feelings are not an important element of who you are………
But it IS to say that either you control your feelings or your feelings control you.
I believe that one of the secrets to success, in any area of our lives we want to get better at, is to control our feelings.
Because sometimes, well, our feelings are just plain weak.
I don’t feel like getting up early to pray, meditate, visualize or read before work today….
I don’t feel like exercising……
I don’t feel like going to work; making the phone calls; doing my homework; going to class; teaching the class; doing whatever it is you should but don’t feel like doing!
I could of course go on and on but each and all of us can be pretty specific about what are the things we should do daily that we don’t in our own lives.
If you have never done this:
- Identify What You Want To Accomplish (lose the weight, get fit, get weathy, healthy, happy, be a Blackbelt, get the degree). They’re YOUR goals!
- This is a hard but ESSENTIAL piece: Identify the DAILY disciplines that you must master to get there.
- If this seems overwhelming or you just don’t know what you don’t know- seek the right help.
Those are the first few steps to getting whatever you want.
There are of course more once you do these; but it’s like gun defense, if you fail at the first step (redirect the line of fire) the rest kind of don’t matter.

p.s. forgot to mention, you’ll probably not feel like doing the exercise I prescribed above. But if you decide you care more about success than than your feeling, let me know how it goes. I’d love to hear what you discover.
p.s.s. We are in the business of empowering people to accomplish their physical, mental and leadership goals. If you’d like to meet live or virtually to discuss how my team and I can help you and/or your family or organization, I’d be honored. ShihanSteve@TampaKravMaga.com
