Atomic Habits

Who is it that you really want to be?

Who did you want to be like when you were a child?

What did you want to be when you grow up?

Do you still dream today?

What do you want to look like? Be like?

Who do you want to be for your spouse and kids?

In what areas of your life have you accomplished your goals?

In which are you still working?

Are there some where you’re stuck in a rut?

How do you want to feel?

What do you want to be able to do?

What are your dreams? What are your fears?

All of these questions are worth contemplating and answering;

Not for anyone else but for yourself.

As in the creation of all things, the creation of the you that you want to be starts by beginning with the end in mind.

What will success look like when you get there?

  1. Determine where you want to go in the various areas of your life- fitness, family, finance, faith, following, friends, freedom, fun…….

  2. Determine the ruts keeping you from where you want to go. Ruts are areas where we have developed neurological pathways that keep us repeating patterns again and again. In some areas these can be positive and useful for training; in many we have unconsciously reinforced and cemented behaviors that keep us doing things and getting results that we don’t want and that keep us from moving in the direction of our goals.

  3. Create a plan. What behaviors and positive habits must you start to go where you want to go? What negative habits must you break? How will you measure your progress? Who can help?

  4. Believe- Uncover the lies you tell yourself. Replace these with positive and empowering thoughts. Identify the ruts and seek to get out of negative ones. Believe in your power to become who you want to be.

“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”

                          Napoleon Hill

Like most worthwhile pursuits all of this is simple, not easy- and I have given but a cursory explanation here.

But here is some more advice that I can give to be more helpful as you set about this course, should you so choose.

  • Read more of books that matter. Particularly in the area of reprogramming your thought and getting out of your ruts, may I suggest one or more of these: What To Say When You Talk To Yourself by Shad Helmstetter, PhD; Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill; Winning The War In Your Mind by Craig Groeschel.

  • Take It Seriously and Give Yourself Grace. The way you think and the ruts you have formed took years to create. Make a serious plan and do the work to change them where you feel that you want or need to, but also give yourself grace. Excellence happens daily, but not in a day.

  • Get help. Allow a Pastor, teacher, friend or other mentor to help you see what you can’t see from inside, to help hold you accountable to the goals you set and, preferably, with fruit on the tree helping others and that is willing and able to help you.

If I may be so bold; it is what I do, by the way.

In my writing, my speaking, my coaching and my teaching, my goal is to help my students become the people that they want to be.

It’s what we do through our work in my school.

  • We give Confidence. Confidence that you are fit and strong and have the health and energy to accomplish your goals and/or to play with your kids. Confidence to speak, to lead, to stand up for yourself and others, and the confidence that you can defend yourself and your family in any situation.

  • We give Empowerment. You already have within you the ability to be a version of yourself that has only been imaginary to this point, and to accomplish any and all goals you want for yourself, your future and your family. Your future self, the best and highest version of yourself, is already within you. We help you discover and develop that person to be all you can be.

My Team and I are standing by.
