What’s your favorite food?

This is a picture of my wife making me rabo (oxtail) for Father’s Day.

She does an amazing job and it’s delicious and, except for the pounds I put on that I need to focus on losing this week, I am grateful. 🙂

This is a picture of my son’s and I yesterday.

It truly was a great day.

I am so proud of my sons and their accomplishments thus far, and even more excited for them about the future.

I get to take a little credit as their dad, but mostly I am grateful to God and to the fact that they group up in the dojo (martial arts academy).

That experience will serve them well for the rest of their lives.

Which brings me back to rabo.

As I said, my wife does an amazing job and it’s delicious.

But that’s true of a lot of the meals that she makes me.

Why is rabo my favorite?

I believe it’s for the memories it conjures up- or at least the emotions.

I am not seven sure exactly what memories these are, but I know that deep in my subconscious there is some programming from youth that makes me feel good when I eat rabo.

So what do oxtail, my sons and my martial arts academy have in common or to do with this email?

That’s what it’s like growing up in a great martial arts academy; especially a leadership development academy that also happens to teach the most practical self defense in the world.

Men and ladies who have grown up in our environment are more likely to behave in a certain way.

They may not even remember why- like with your favorite food.

But they will act with courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control and indomitable spirit.

They will demonstrate more focus, respect, discipline, confidence, gratitude and vision than their peers.

They will be more equipped to deal with the inevitable challenges of life, better prepared for the opportunities and able to defend themselves should the need arise.

They will also have fond memories of the leadership and community, the friends and the mentors that shared this journey with them along their way.

I can’t tell you what their favorite food will be but, for a child that grows up in our Blackbelt Leadership program, I can promise all of that.
