What’s Your Chapter 7?

This morning I was listening to Patrick Bet-David and he gave a great analogy for finding your why.

“You build a great car: eight hundred horsepower, incredible chassis, zero to sixty in 2.8 seconds. But that alone won’t get the car to move. You need something else to actually drive it.

You need gas. You need fuel.”

In the first 6 chapters of my book, Developing Your Superpower, I teach on what I coined The 6 Foundational Superpowers.

These are Focus, Respect, Discipline, Confidence, Gratitude and Vision; the superpowers that I believe are essential to succeed at whatever we are called to do and, incidentally, also an important part of the success skills we develop in students at my Blackbelt Leadership academy, that also happens to teach the most practical self defense.

But chapter 7 of my book is about discovering the unique superpower that you, and your kids, are endowed with to make your and their contributions into the world.

When I wrote the Vision statement for my academy almost 24 years ago:

The vision of Krav Maga Martial Arts is to touch lives in a positive way and improve people, families and society – one Black Belt at a time!

Our Mission is to create confident and competent Blackbelt Leaders, Prepared to Survive and Thrive in any situation, and empowered to lead- where they’re at and into their future!

This was the original mission by the way:

  • The mission is empowering lives through martial art!
    • To teach excellence, achieved through the values of perseverance and honor and conduct all business in accordance with these same values.
    • To arm children with self-esteem, provide them with the life skills of success and partner with parents and schools to prepare them to lead productive lives.
    • To provide the highest quality instruction in the martial arts and help people realize their personal goals through our various programs.
    • To provide fun, positive and open atmosphere where people are respected, families are appreciated and community is strengthened.
    • To continuously evolve to better serve our customers and team members towards the realization of our mission statement and values.
    • To raise up tomorrow’s leaders today by providing the culture, training, environment and opportunities to the youth, teens, and adults can grow into the leaders they are called to be – in their homes, communities, country and world.

I share both to say that it’s what we do.

And it’s because I knew it was what I was called to do, since early.

My childhood experiences, which weren’t all good, my military, martial arts and academic education, my adult experiences with and in each, and my associations with great mentors, and not so great…

all had come together to prepare me to what we do; what I was called to do.

But that’s enough about that, because I wanted this to be about you and, if you have kids, about them too.

In chapter 7 of my book I say that:

“I believe that every person was placed on the earth to fulfill a particular purpose. Unlike the six core superpowers, that can be developed by anyone and are essential for everyone (at least to do great things), each person has a unique, personal and special calling- a mission in life that God created them to do and that only they can do in the particular way they are called to do it. It’s a travesty in life when people fail to discover what their calling is, and even worse when they know it, but fail to answer the call. Fear, complacency, confusion, distraction, low self esteem, or a lack of any of the core six superpowers could be the enemy that keeps the would-be superhero from answering his is her call.”

I’ll close with this…

the book I was reading from Patrick Bet-David was called Choose Your Enemies Wisely.

I was having a little trouble with that.

Then I looked back at Ch 7 to write this blog for you and realized I had identified my enemies right there.

“Fear, complacency, confusion, distraction, low self esteem, or a lack of any of the core six superpowers could be the enemy that keeps the would-be superhero from answering his is her call.”

Those are my enemies and, thus, my fuel to do what I have been called to do; what Team KMMA and I do.

I challenge you:

1. Find that for you too. There is no greater satisfaction in life than doing what you are called to do, and the passion and purpose that fuels that.

2. Help your kids to do the same too.

3. Develop the 6 Blackbelt Superpowers, and your unique ones too. And of course help your kids do the same.

By the way, if you’re reading this and are already in our tribe, please reply and let me know how it goes for you and your kids. How is KMMA helping you?

And if you’re not yet, we sure would live to help you too. Call 813-948-4844, or click here to begin your free trial!
