Usually, we know what we know.
And, sometimes, we know what we don’t know.
It’s what we don’t know that we don’t know that will get us.
This is why I love learning so much.
We aren’t improving just knowing what we know;
We need to seek out the teachers that can teach us what we know that we don’t know.
And we especially need to learn what we don’t know that we don’t know that we don’t know.
I consumed a whole book by Dr. Berg yesterday that taught me SO much about the way the body’s hormonal system works, and how that applies to weight loss.
I didn’t know and I didn’t know that I didn’t know! That kind of learning is so exciting because now I can start applying the new knowledge to my nutrition and training plan and execute better for a better result.
Instead of training harder, I can now train smarter.
Another example was last week when my mentor Grandmaster Jeff Smith came to visit.
I had a whole agenda prepared of the things that I hoped he would help me with- the things I knew I didn’t know.
He helped me with those and many others of the latter category too!
And now I can put all that new knowledge into my action plan for the next training evolution!
This is how winning is done!
It’s a combination of several of our leadership principles, including:
the law of the process, CANI (Constant and Neverending Improvement), L3 (Life Long Learner) and WIN (What’s Important Next).
Now, today is an exciting day, for I will sit down with my notes and learning from Grandmaster Smith and from Dr. Berg and, in each of these key areas of my life that I have important goals for this year, quarter and monthly, I can refine my action plans to go get them even better than before!
I hope you are chasing after your goals too.
We spent January dedicated to goal setting, and I alluded to goal getting.
This is one of the most important lessons you have to get if you want to get better at getting your goals.
You see- none of us knows everything.
We know what we know.
And sometimes we know what we don’t know……..
What do you know that you don’t know in regards to your most important goals this season?
What don’t you know?
Who has fruit on the tree (success and expertise) in the area that you want to improve in?
What books can you read?
What mentors do you need?
Answer these questions as step one to this exciting process.
You’re either green and growing, or ripe and rotting.
Join me on the growth journey!
