What Do Craig Groeschel, Tony Robbins, Steve Jobs and Warren Buffet All Have in Common?

You may answer something about how successful they are or have been, if you know of them all; it is true that all of them have been at the top of their perspective endeavors.

And I really could have also used any great athlete, academic, artist or leader of any kind…

What they all have in common is the first of the Blackbelt Superpowers that we teach at Krav Maga Martial Arts and that I wrote about in my book, Developing Your Superpower.

     Focus!

Sure, focus is the ability to block out distractions and concentrate on what’s important- the most basic form of Focus, and that which we develop in our Basic Training students so that they can qualify for our Blackbelt Leadership Program.

But it is so much more.

This morning I was listening to Craig Groeschel’s Lead Like It Matters, and he was making the point that churches and ministries that sometimes have it, lose it, because they get distracted by too many things. (It, in his book, refers to that something special that some have and some don not).

He teaches how there should be one or a few things which a church should focus on in order to have it. (I highly recommend the book by the way).

Tony Robbins teaches about Focused Intention as the power to change and do anything we want in life.

Steve Jobs was famous to saying NO to most things to say yes to a few (and be the best at these); it was one of his secrets to turning around Apple and making it the iconic business that it is today.

Warren Buffet won’t invest in anything he can’t easily understand, and stays focused on just a few…

The bottom line is that energy flows where Focus goes and, by definition, if we try to focus on too many things at once, we aren’t focused at all!

The “laser-beam” Focus that we develop in our students at Krav Maga Martial Arts must be selectively focused on the priorities that the student wants to accomplish.

For the youth that’s great grades in school, becoming a Blackbelt Leader, and developing Focus, Confidence and the rest of the Blackbelt Superpowers that will lead them to one day applying even greater focus to their particular purpose and calling in life.

What are the few things for you?

I believe we can focus on about 3 important goals at any given time.

Because we may have more things than that that we want to master, we sometimes must choose to be strategically out of balance for small periods of time- i.e., taking focus away from some things for a season to put more on another.

I usually refocus the specifics of my focus quarterly, of course always still in support of my mid and long-range goals.

The great thing is that with really focused focus, we can oft bring things that need remedial attention back on track in relatively short time and, if we create new habits and systems in the process that will serve us well to maintain the new state we created with laser beam focus, we can then shift that focus to other things that also move us closer to our goals. (Our Blackbelt Leadership principle of What’s Important Next (WIN))

Want to be more fit?

Then we need focus more time and energy, as well as mental focus, on that goal.

Want to start a business, do better at the business or career you’re in, improve a relationship, learn a language, develop a skill?

You guessed it, focus your time, attention, and energy on the object of your desire and the chances of transmuting the Vision from desire to reality go exponentially up!

Focus is indeed the first Superpower.

One of my gifts is helping others to get it.
