They Got This
This weekend, we were throwing a family dinner party for our grandson and my sons and I took him to the pool for a bit after dinner.
Our daughter had her boyfriend with her, and he has a 13 year old daughter named Savannah that walked to the pool with us too.
After a half an hour or so, apparently Cory (the boyfriend) said that maybe he should go check on her.
My wife had an awesome revelation which she shared with him, and later with me…
She said, “well, Winston (my youngest son) is a 3rd degree blackbelt, Diego (the middle son) is a 4th degree and Harley (the eldest of the three) is a 5th degree. Steve (that’s me) is a 7th.
I think Savannah is pretty safe.”
They all laughed and relayed the story later, and it served as my meditation for today.
It was true.
In every way, Savannah was safe.
My boys, (and not because they’re my boys but because they’re my Blackbelts) are physically, mentally and emotionally trained to survive and thrive in any situation- including any dangerous one requiring expert awareness, decision making and self defense skills.
And they also have the character and leadership of a KMMA Blackbelt.
So, even had I not been there, Savannah and Triton (and anyone else) would be safe with them.
It got me thinking what a great feeling that is- to know that our kids are equipped with the physical skills and attributes, and the character and leadership to protect themselves and others in any situation.

About Grandmaster Stephen J. Del Castillo: Grandmaster Del Castillo is the founding Master Instructor of Krav Maga Martial Arts and has been empowering lives in Pasco and Hillsborough Counties since October of 2000. He is a 7th degree Blackbelt, MBA, author, mentor and success coach, a US Army Veteran and a proud father and grandfather. He is married to Ms. Barbara Del Castillo who helps him run the school.
