The One Word

In my reading this morning, author Dean Graziosi, shared this:

A great friend and dear friend of mine by the name of Richard Ronsi runs a remarkable company in Washington D.C., creating empowering events tailored to high achieving high school students; they receive life changing knowledge by attending. When I was talking to Richard about his events, I said, “You’ve been blessed to see so many successful high school kids come through your program. If you could identify one common trait, they all have, what would that be?”

He said, “I don’t even have to think about it. It’s one word: confidence.”  He added, “It’s not the smartest kids or the ones with the straight A’s that become the superstars; it’s the ones that have an incredible amount of confidence that go on to do amazing things in their lives.”

(Excerpt is from Millionaire Success Habits by Dean Graziosi)

I would agree Richard.

I too have had the privilege of knowing some of the most successful teens that go on to do amazing things.

And, in my case, I also have the privilege of knowing that my team and I helped them get that way- many of them grew up in my dojo.

And, while we also developed Focus, Respect, Discipline, Gratitude, Vision, integrity, perseverance, self-control, fitness, self-defense, and leadership skills in every Blackbelt…

if I would have been forced to choose which one common trait most prepares them for success, I would agree that Confidence is #1.

I’ll share more about how we develop Confidence over the next few weeks.

I will be teaching on the 4 Cs to Confidence at CIT this Saturday by the way!

In closing, allow me to dispel a few common myths about confidence that just aren’t true by the way.

  1. we are not naturally confident or non-confident. nobody is born one way or the other. Confidence is a nurture, not nature, thing.
  2. Confidence also isn’t an absolute. Even the most confident people sometimes lack it and even the timidest can find it. The key is knowing how to harness and wield it when, and in the capacity, that we need it!

Let me assure you, Confidence can be developed, and can and should be managed.

With it, anything is possible.
