The Law of Solid Ground

The lesson of the week this week is also the 6th of John Maxwell’s 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership: The Law of Solid Ground.

Watch my Facebook live about it.

The Law of Solid Ground states that trust is the foundation of leadership; and I believe that.

You cannot follow someone you can not trust.

In the video, I explain that this is true to lead others and it is true to lead ourselves.

In order to lead effectively, in any size organization and even in self leadership, we must be trustworthy.

And the way to become trustworthy is to do the things that you say you will do.

This is important to lead yourself towards any worthy cause- every Blackbelt first has trust in himself, by having earned it over the years proceeding, that he or she has what it takes to pass the test.

In fact, I can tell you with certainty that anyone that goes into that test with doubt in themselves will surely fail.

It’s like that with every test in life.

And the way to eliminate doubt is to trust yourself.

The way to trust yourself is to become trustworthy.

And the way to do that is to do the work consistently over time (the law of the process) to become the person that can, and knows they can, pass that test.

Are you one of them?

I believe in you.

Do you?

And if you aren’t a student yet, start here!

Trust me and trust you.

You can do this!

p.s. This is Sensei Charlie. I LOVE this young man. One of the reasons I love him is because I can trust him. He has shown me, through his actions over time, that he is trustworthy. He does the things he commits to do. In a modern world where employers often have to wonder not only if their employees will show up to work but, even before that, whether they’ll show up for the interview, this is huge.

You see, young people reading this (and I hope you’ll share it with your young people if you are a parent), The Law of Solid Ground cuts both ways. Yes, your leader needs to be consistent, respectful and reliable for you; and yes, you need to do the same for your leader.

I honestly believe that, in today’s marketplace, these types of Blackbelt Leader attributes- reliability, honesty, consistency, commitment….

the things that make one trustworthy…

these things are even more rare and valuable than education, skills or any of the “objective” indicators.

I am blessed and grateful that Sensei Charlie wants a career in the martial arts and trust he will stay with KMMA for many years to come as we sow other Blackbelt Leaders together!

But here’s what I know.

He and any other of my Blackbelt Leaders have what it takes to be succesful at anything.

This is the way. #ilovekmma
