My Face is Numb and She Said I’m a Manly Man
Well, my face is numb because my dentists, Dr. De Luca, was kind enough to flood me with lidocaine before extracting my tooth.
And what she said exactly was, “if anyone ever questions your manliness, you can show them this. You must have a pretty high tolerance to pain to have been going about your business with this for the last two weeks. It was split clean in two with the roots exposed. The pain should have been escrutiating.”
Well, I truly appreciate the validation and always have believed that i have a pretty high pain tolerance…
but then I’ve also always reflected upon the fact that this is such a subjective analysis- like how do you compare your pain to someone else’s pain, and then how can you say who’s tolerance is greater when u don’t know who’s pain is…
well, of course all of this is irrelevant, albeit hopefully somewhat entertaining.
I was just grateful to get a decent story and a great subject line from the experience. 🙂
and for lidocaine, lest we forget.
But here is a point that is both true and relevant.
I am grateful to have found a great dentist, competent in her craft, knowledgeable and fun to deal with.
I am very grateful to Joe Karlinski, Dylan’s dad, for referring her to me.
Had he not, who knows if I would have had as much luck finding a dentist that I liked on my own.
I have found some I did not; and I won’t tell that story.
This is Dylan by the way. Great kid.
But, to the my point, I am grateful Joe thought to tell me about her.
She probably is too.
And it was a great reminder for me, and I hope for you, about the importance of referring businesses we believe in.
I hope my team and i are doing a good enough job for you that you would do so for us, if you knew an adult looking for fun and fitness, or practical self defense- and/or parents with kids that could use some more focus, or discipline, or respect or confidence….
you know, the things we do.
So, in fact, I am going to be bold enough to ask for a favor; maybe two.
1. if you can think of someone that could use what we do, would you share? i just had new cards made for team and I, and even a special one for ambassadors like you. you can grab some from any of us, or the ambassador one next time you come in- and then share them with friends we can help.
2. if for whatever reason we’re not doing a referral worthy job, or there is anything that would keep you from doing that, would you tell me? I’d appreciate that too.
I am proud of and grateful for you.
