Leadership Lives On For Generations

The subject line of this email is also the title of the closing chapter of a book I just finished, which you’ll read about below.

And it’s such an important truth.

Whether we have a formal “leadership” position or not, we all lead; the only choice is to do so well or poorly.

Here is a post I made this morning attempting to summarize what the author shared in the last chapter of the book:

On my knowledge walk this morning, I finished the Audible book “All In” by Mike Michalowicz. I highly recommend to all my business leader friends, as it is a great treatise on developing great teams. But it was in the last chapter that he addressed some amazing advice for all leaders to remember. He did so through a tear jerking story featuring his father but, in his own words, not about him but rather about Kathy Fuller. Shortly before his passing Mike had asked his father, whom had a very difficult childhood, who had the greatest influence on his life… and it was this lady who had first taught him to believe in his potential and sewn some seeds of a future into him, when he was like 12 years old. This quick summary won’t do justice to the chapter but, long story short, she made Mike’s father see his own potential, which led him to see the potential in his own kids and others as well. We never know the lives we touch or the difference we can make. But we should remember the potential every encounter has. I have had many meaningful moments where previous students have shared such stories with me, and always remind my team the influence we have on our students lives. It is an honor, privilege and calling that no teacher should ever take for granted.

Speaking of great teachers, I want to put out a shout out to all the great ones that have sown into me in my life, my amazing Team at KMMA, and specifically my mentor Grandmaster Jeff Smith who is on his way.

He’ll be with me at the school tonight so, if you can make it, make sure to get to class so you can meet him!

He’s a wealth of wisdom and experience, and a great teacher.

So are my Sensei at KMMA by the way.
