Knowing is Only Half the Battle

Have you ever heard the saying, “Knowing is half the battle”?

Of course you have.
We all have.

It’s usually said right after someone explains something important — almost as if now that you know, everything should suddenly be easy.

But here’s the part that often gets overlooked:

Knowing is only half the battle.

Knowing is critical.
Knowing is necessary.
But knowing, by itself, is not sufficient.

Knowledge without action doesn’t change anything.
It doesn’t change habits.
It doesn’t fix problems.
It doesn’t build confidence.
And it definitely doesn’t create Black Belts or leaders.

At best, knowledge gives us potential.
What we do with it determines the outcome.

The Real Problem Isn’t Ignorance

Most people already know what they should do.

They know they should:

  • train consistently

  • manage their time better

  • eat better

  • follow through

  • stay disciplined

The problem usually isn’t a lack of information.

The real challenge is the gap between knowing and doing — what I often call the execution gap.

How We Bridge the Gap

At KMMA, we teach that turning knowledge into results requires a process. Miss a step, and progress stalls.

1. Awareness (Knowing)
Awareness is the starting point. Without it, nothing changes. But awareness alone doesn’t create results — it simply creates opportunity.

2. Intention & Planning
Once you know, you must decide.
What am I going to do with this knowledge?
When will I apply it?
How will I follow through?

A simple plan beats a perfect plan that never gets used.

3. Action (Consistent, Not Perfect)
This is where real change happens. Action is often uncomfortable and imperfect — and that’s okay. Consistent action matters far more than perfect action.

4. Reflection, Adjustment & Discipline
What worked?
What didn’t?
What needs to change?

This step is where growth accelerates and discipline is built.

The Black Belt Connection

Every Black Belt learns this lesson firsthand.

Knowing techniques doesn’t make you a Black Belt.
Applying them — consistently, over time — does.

That’s why our Blackbelt Leadership Program goes beyond martial arts. We teach students how to take ideas and turn them into habits, goals into systems, and knowledge into leadership.

Knowing is only half the battle.
     Execution wins.

See you on the mat,
Grand Master Steve

p.s. The law of the process is important to remember too. Excellence happens daily, but not in a day.

Having said that, what’s your next step towards becoming a confident, competent Blackbelt? Have you even taken the first?

Do you know the next?

I’ll be at the Port Richey School tonight and back in Lutz tomorrow. Let me know if you want to talk about what’s important next for you.

First step, if you haven’t taken it yet, is to come in for your 2 week free trial and orientation.

Do it now and we can set you up to hit the ground running in January!

New year, new you!
