It’s All About The People
Last week during coffee time, my wife was sharing with me about our daughter’s first night in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) of the hospital she works at.
She (our daughter Heather) had written about what a great experience she had.
Heather also shared that she had been transparent with the nurses that it was her first night there and she wanted feedback, to know if she was doing something less perfectly than she should.
Of course I was proud of her coachable spirit, by the way…
(I’m also proud of the amazing job she’s doing on her educational quest towards becoming a RN (Registered Nurse). It’s hard for a single mom, but she’s making it happen, and even earning honor roll along the way too. She’s training like the Blackbelt that she is.)
Barbara (my wife) said something about the that inspired me to this writing;
she said, “I’m glad she got good nurses willing to help her. It’s all about the people.”
As she often does, Barb said in passing a universal principle that we should all remember, in all that we do.
It’s always all about the people.
I teach my instructor staff this truth as part of their Instructor Training.
I’ll ask, “what do we teach?”
Someone will say martial arts, another krav maga, someone will get more specific and say a hybrid system based on the best from karate, kickboxing and krav maga…
some will even mention the fact that we are a Blackbelt Leadership Academy, that also happens to teach the most practical self defense, or our character development program, or the the Blackbelt Superpowers.
I’ll acknowledge the inherent correctness in all of these answers, but add the one I am looking for.
We teach people.
It’s the catalyst to the block of instruction about empowerment, rapport and relationship, customer service, and other elements of the people business that we’re in.
And whether we are talking about the job of the nurses at that hospital, my Team at the dojo, or any other person at any other job- it’s always all about the people.
It’s about the quality of delivery of a product or service to the people, how well we deliver it, and how we make the people feel.
And how well that all happens, well that’s all about the people too.
Those well trained in their craft, and the people skills to empower and serve well will deliver a product and service that makes the aspiring nurse, student, customer, son, daughter or whomever, feel and become better too.
That’s why my number one priority these days is training the trainers.
I serve, empower and equip them so that they can do the same for our students too.
If you haven’t experienced that for yourself yet,
we can’t wait to meet you.
Prepare To Live; Empower To Lead!
