As we approach the last quarter of 2021, how are your goals going?
According to a 2015 University of Scranton poll, 62% of Americans make New Year’s Resolutions, but only 8% keep them.
You don’t have to answer the question, to me at least; but it is a useful rhetorical question meant to get you to seriously consider the problem, and the solution, if you’re not goal getting as often as you’re goal setting.
I write about Vitamin D (Discipline) and that what we do daily is one of the secrets to Blackbelt Leadership Excellence and goal getting in my book, Developing Your Superpower.
But I kind of wish I had included the specific advice that I am about to include here.
I will be in Volume Two.
In his book, NO BS Time Management for Entrepreneurs, guru Dan S. Kennedy shares:
Just writing down a goal and hastily buying a few things related to that means nothing. It’s good for the economy, but it’s not good for you. In fact, it’s a very unhealthy behavior pattern. If you are to take a goal, objective, or target seriously and have hope of its achievement, you need to link it to time. Time must be made for it, allocated to it, budgeted for it, and booked into your schedule as firm, inviolate appointments with yourself and/or with others.
I can attest to the power of this simple idea.
Your daily schedule must include specifically appointed time for actions that support the goals that we say are important to us.
If they do not, we will not do it.
My productivity and success in many of the most important areas of my personal and professional life has skyrocketed since I started.
It will do the same for you.
It’s the same with my martial arts students by the way.
The successful one regularly makes at least two classes a week, and the best practice for an additional 15-30 minutes a day.
We make it easy by having the homework in our google classroom and encouraging practice at home by rewarding students with character stripes for completing the process.
The secret is that this is how success habits are developed for anything.
Set the goal, identify the habit, schedule it and keep it daily.
If you do this, you will be shocked how quickly winning will come.
