I’m Stressing Out

OK, I’m not really stressing out.

you know me better than that. 🙂

But I do feel stress sometimes.

There are of course all kinds of potential stress but, today, I want to share what I think is one of the biggest causes and, of course, what we can do about it.

Truth is, I was just experiencing the type of stress that I am about to share…

but I caught myself and decided to do something more productive with my Focus- which was to come here and talk to you.

The stress I am talking about is around information overload.

Even if you do a relatively good job ignoring all of the negativity on the news, and the information campaigns of all the politicians, by ignoring media propaganda as much as possible, as I do, you can still experience information overload, as I also sometimes do.

Even if the information is coming from good sources, there is just so much of it!

I was just attempting to delete enough stuff from my email inbox to get to the stuff that could be useful, and started to feel stress just by doing it.

What we have to do, of course, is be very selective about what we invest our time, energy and attention in…

so allow me to say, THANK YOU, if you’re reading this, because it means I’ve made your worthy list. 🙂

So, here’s my 3 step advice on selective Focus to minimize stress (for me and you!)

1. Focus on things that make you better.

I LOVE reading, watching and listening to great personal and professional development, and other things that are educational, inspiring and useful. But, even then, there are so many great voices all saying so much that it can be overwhelming still.

2. So we have to choose just a few key mentors, in specific areas, and follow them. Too many voices- even good ones- can become stressful, as well as confusing and counter-productive. So what we need to do is find the mentor that we believe in and that resonates with us and drill deep, rather than going wide.

3. Focus on what’s important next towards your personal goals. Find mentors that can help you in the specific things you want to do.

There is no shortage of information anymore; the fact is that the opposite is true.

Therefore, Focus of our TEA (time, energy and attention) is what we have to do- to avoid stress and to become the person we need to be, to do all that we need to do, to achieve the goals that we have for our year and for our life.

We can do it!

FOCUS, the first Blackbelt Superpower, is the lesson of this week at KMMA by the way.
