Blog From Shihan's Desk Martial Arts

I decided to be a biker for Halloween.

I wore my Biker costume in to work today, instead of my KMMA Uniform or business attire, to be ready for The KMMA Costume Party tonight.

But I am also celebrating our 20 year anniversary empowering lives through martial art today.

If you are reading this and have been a part of any evolution of the last 20 years of that mission, as a student, teacher or friend- thank you!

  • I spent 38 years preparing to be exactly where I am today, and I am grateful to all the great martial arts teachers and leadership mentors who helped grow me to this point.
  • I have been in positions of progressive leadership responsibility for 28 years, since I was commissioned as a Second Lietenant in the US Army in 1992 (same year I bought that bike). I am grateful for all the great Officers and other mentors, soldiers and other followers, and all the great and sometimes painful experiences that helped prepare me for where I am today.
  • I have been running this dojo, mission, business, calling for 20 years and a wake-up now. I am grateful to all the great students, teachers, families, friends and others who have helped me.
  • And I am grateful, in advance, for all the mentors, Team, students and Blackbelts who help me grow our mission and dojo to her full potential while helping me grow thousands of future Blackbelts to theirs!

  •   I wanna close with a shout out to my 3 sons, all KMMA Blackbelts and all whom grew up along with this dojo and I (in my capacity as their Father and as the Leader of it).
    • Shihan Harley Del Castillo, my eldest, is a 4th Degree Blackbelt and KMMA Master Instructor and my Chief Marketing Officer in charge of video production as well. He turned 20 August 1.

  • Shihan Diego Del Castillo is 18 and just earned his 4th Degree. He’s off to start his military career in January, at Ft. Benning Georgia for Basic and Infantry school (I started there at his age too) and then on to University of North Georgia for Officer Training and College.

  • Sensei Winston Del Castill is my youngest and will be testing for his 3rd Degree next year. He is growing into his leadership role and will be an amazing leader for KMMA and the world.

  • As proud as I am of my mission at Krav Maga Martial Arts, I’m even prouder of them and grateful to all the great leaders of the dojo that have helped me raise them into the men and leaders they are and will be.

here they are a few years ago, growing as leaders @ KMMA
