Meditations On Mastery

This is me, Grandmaster Stephen Del Castillo- your friend. I’ve missed speaking directly to you as much and wanted to get back to writing more often.

You probably realize that not all my emails come directly from me anymore. Sometimes my AI helps me write and sometimes my Marketing Director Christine does.

And I feel pretty sure that they help me create an even more consistently better product. I am still always a part of it, but I don’t personally sit down and write all of my own emails anymore.

But I am today. It’s towards the end of my workday on a Monday that I am writing to you btw, but I am going to schedule it for tomorrow morning.

And I am going to write you a meditations on mastery blog every Tuesday from now on. Many of you know that, in addition to being the founder and Grandmaster of KMMA, a father, grandfather, teacher, CEO and mentor, I am a philosopher.

So whereas a lot of what is sent out for me is communication to my students or marketing to my greater tribe and community, my column will specifically be mostly philosophy.

Much of my personal, professional and leadership philosophy is much of what informs much of our Blackbelt Leadership program, what we do and how we do it, and also the other emails and other social and other activity going on.

While I am talking about that, I am really grateful for the amazing work that Christine is doing for us. Her photography and story-telling is both beautiful and powerful and I am grateful for she and her daughter as future Blackbelts and her contributions to the team through her mastery of photo-journalism. She is a blessing and I am so glad we eventually learned about her special gift.

And, you know, that’s as good a jumping off point into some philosophy as any…

I believe that everyone has a special gift like that. In chapter 7 of my first book, Developing Your Superpowers I wrote about some ways to discover yours.

I coined the first 6 Blackbelt Superpowers “foundational” because I believe that we all need these as the foundation to help us discover, develop and deploy the other.

I believe we all have special gifts, bestowed by God that we are meant to discover and develop so that we can share them with the world! 

I also believe it’s why our unique strengths and weaknesses are different.

If we were all good at everything, we wouldn’t need each other to succeed. And I believe also that we are meant to rely on each other to make the mosts of our gifts, in the service of each other and in the service of the rest of our world!

Today I am grateful God made us like that.

And I am proud and grateful to be a part of a great tribe that empowers each other, cheers each other on, appreciates each other’s strengths and helps each other mitigate their weakness, while we help each other improve in those areas too.

Well, that’s it for today.
