Emerging Leaders

The picture above is Shihan Ben Borton briefing his team of assistants for his summer camp today.

The significance of the picture is that they are all emerging leaders, though in different stages of the process.

The two young Blackbelts have helped teach before and are well into their Blackbelt Leadership and Certified Instructor Training (CIT) programs.

The probationary Blackbelt is a Future Instructor Student Teacher (FIST), and testing for his Blackbelt in September too.

The youngest is a year three student, Red Belt Two, and this is one of his first times doing anything like this.

His mother told me this morning that he was so afraid that he almost opted out.

But she encouraged him, and he came and, of course, the great Shihan Ben sowed Confidence into him, as well as competence appropriate to his level, in teaching, communication and other leadership skills under Shihan’s mentorship.

The coolest part of the story is that Ben is a college student on a full ride scholarship at Baylor University in Texas, where he is also an ROTC cadet. He has been a part of our program since he was three…

Today he told me how much the focus, confidence, discipline and character and leadership skills of our academy have helped him, in college and ROTC and the rest of his life.

Then better yet, he showed it, by stepping into the leadership role and helping sow into the next generation of leaders at KMMA.

I’m proud and grateful of him and all our leaders that help us do what we do.

If you’re with us, you know.

And, if you’re not yet, we hope to sow into you and yours soon too.

Proud and Grateful.
