Best Day Ever
What was your best day ever?
Do you even remember?
It’d be hard for me to pick just one.
But what if you were to treat every day as though it were to be?
What would you say and do?
Recently, my grandson Triton came for a sleepover with me, and showed us the way.
He came for Wednesday night and all day Thursday.
When he arrived, after we hugged, I started talking to him about what he’d like to do and accomplish with our time together.
Then I gave him my planner so we could actually plan the next day.
Then we watched the 2009 Star Trek together, which was surprisingly good…
but I digress. Allow me to beam back to the story.
As we tucked in for bed, Triton made me promise to wake him when I did.
Now I am normally up by 0600, but I slept in a little that Thursday, going back to bed for an hour or two so as not to wake him up that early.
But about 0730 I think it was, I went to wake him.
He didn’t wake easy.
I had to shake him and keep calling his name, but I persisted because, well, I promised.
So, it’s what happened next that made me decide that I would write this record of the event first chance I got, which was 6am Monday by the way…
But that Thursday morning, with me shaking him increasingly harder to wake him up, and even beginning to wonder rather I should just let him sleep some more…
he suddenly opens his eyes abruptly and says with great enthusiasm and vigor, as though he’d been awake drinking coffee for hours…
“this is going to be the best day ever!!!”
I gotta tell you, that made my day.
And it was.
That is, we did proceed to make it the best day ever that day.
Now I am not sure if the day was actually objectively the best day my grandson has ever had; kid has had a pretty great life and I know will continue to, and especially with an attitude like that.
What struck me was his attitude of extreme expectation!
Triton sprung out of bed expecting it to be the best day ever.
And that’s what inspired me to write you this blog.
1. What if you sprung out of bed every morning with the expectation of the best day ever? How much better would each day get?
2. Besides this positive attitude, what other things did Triton do that we can learn from?
Well, first, he planned exactly the day he wanted the day before.
Then he checked it the next morning, visualizing and even ordering how we would get it all done.
Then we did it, and I saw his immense pleasure as he checked off each task.
What if you did that every day?
Or perhaps you do but, if not, could you and, if you could, would you?
If you did, would your days be better?
Ponder the question over coffee today…
and then, go make this the best day ever!
