3 Hacks to Make Your Best Year Ever!
- Barb and I finished our living your best year ever planning yesterday.
- I woke up this morning at 4:00 a.m. and couldn’t get back to sleep so I went to work at 5:00.
These are mostly three unrelated and irrelevant facts, but I want to share how they actually relate to one another as pertains to what’s important next.
- I recorded the video in 2023 but the three hacks that I taught about are just as relevant as we begin 2025. By the way, did anyone else notice how quickly 2024 flew by? or was that just me? On a more important note, anyone else committed to make 2025 the best year ever? If so, join me.
- The plan was to have an off-site retreat with my team the first Monday of that week. We were closed for the Christmas Hanukkah break. But the Thursday night before, after a productive night with Grandmaster Smith, sowing and evaluating the team and classes, and on the way home to rest before training the next day, another vehicle ran the yellow flashing yield light and t-boned me, also driving me head on into a cement light pole. I spent the next few days in the hospital, and the next couple weeks recovering, and I’m not back 100% yet but I’m getting better every day! I will make it to graduation this Saturday and I hope to see you there too! Anyway, the relevant part is that the accident created some contingencies in my plans for the break, including my goal planning. But, as I’ve alluded to, I got it mostly done over the last couple of days and I am excited to attack 2025 more resolutely, motivated, dedicated, and on a quest then I have ever been before.
- That’s part of why I couldn’t get back to sleep. I’m so excited about all the improvements, additions, and surprises we have for you this year. It will definitely be the best year for our Black Belt Leadership Academy so far.Our programs and people have evolved so much since I opened the school in October of 2000. Every year we get better than the year before. it’s all been leading up to this! I can’t wait to show you!
- We are open today! Your head instructors have some amazing fun Bonus Week classes to help you get right back at it tonight and Friday. Then we hope to see you at the graduation Saturday, where you will be awarded your new belt, celebrate with peers of your tribe and be inspired forward to your next level on your black belt Quest! of course we will also be awarding character medals and trophies… Graduations are the time that we celebrate our success and recalibrate our vision and focus towards what’s important next.
- Then, Monday we begin the new year of training curriculum. The physical martial arts, krav maga, kickboxing and kali of our curriculum is awesome as ever and you will have fun, get a great Workout and learn something new. but I am especially excited about improvements I have personally made to our Black Belt Leadership and certified instructor training programs! I can’t even tell you, you just got to see! I can’t wait.
Students, I am excited to make this our best year ever serving you; and I’m excited to help you design and execute your best year ever!
In fact, that’s the theme of The Black Belt Leadership training program in January. and all students will get it, those that stay for leadership we’ll just get to go even deeper to include handouts and exercises I have created to help you internalize the training.

About Grandmaster Stephen J. Del Castillo: Grandmaster Del Castillo is the founding Master Instructor of Krav Maga Martial Arts and has been empowering lives in Pasco and Hillsborough Counties since October of 2000. He is an 8th degree Blackbelt, MBA, author, mentor and success coach, a US Army Veteran and a proud father and grandfather. He is married to Ms. Barbara Del Castillo who helps him run the school. Grand Master Del Castillo began his training in the early 80’s and has high level blackbelts in Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Premier Martial Arts and Krav Maga Martial Arts as well as experience in kickboxing, Jeet Kune Do and Jiujitsu. He has high level instructor certifications from BBSI, IKMF, and KMG and has been featured in numerous Martial Arts publications and also Success magazine. He was a competitive sport karate and American Kickboxing instructor until he enlisted in the US Army where he served in the 82nd Airborne Division, where he won an Army Green to Gold scholarship and proceeded to ROTC and the University of Tampa. He was commissioned in 1992 and went on to serve in Germany with the 3rd Infantry Division and then in several other posts in the US until he left military service to pursue his dream of creating KMMA in 2000. Today I continue to train, learn, sow and grow under the mentorship of World Champion Grandmaster Jeff Smith, who regularly visits the academy to help sow into my teams and students as well.
