10/90: A Message From Sensei Mac

The purpose of this message is to both share some news about one of our own, and share a lesson from her that she asked me to share with you.

My meeting with her was really one of a few great meetings I had today; each with important people that I care about.

Sensei Mac is going to be gone for a while.

She won’t be able to take her 3rd degree test this time around, and she won’t be able to train for a while either.

She has to get a surgery to remove a cyst at the base of her brain.

She and I both knew you’d be wondering where she went, so we met to discuss that.

She gave me permission to share what was going on with you.

She also said that she believes that her training to this point has perpared her for this test.

She said, and I quote, “I kind of understood the life is 10% what happens and 90% how you react to it lesson before, but I feel I unedrstand it better now.”

She went on to say that she doesn’t feel afraid, but that the pysical, mental and emotional training she has received has prepared her to face this calmly- that she would have been way more scared without it…

I’m proud of Sensei Mackenzie for all that.

I know she will get through this test as strongly as she would have her Sandan (3rd Degree, Senior Blackbelt) one.

And I know she’ll return to resume her journey after she’s better.

Please join me in prayers for Sensei Mackenzie and keep up your own training.

When I asked her if there was anything she’d like me to tell you, she asked me to tell you to never give up.

About Grandmaster Stephen J. Del Castillo: Grandmaster Del Castillo is the founding Master Instructor of Krav Maga Martial Arts and has been empowering lives in Pasco and Hillsborough Counties since October of 2000. He is a 7th degree Blackbelt, MBA, author, mentor and success coach, a US Army Veteran and a proud father and grandfather. He is married to Ms. Barbara Del Castillo who helps him run the school. Grand Master Del Castillo began his training in the early 80’s and has high level blackbelts in Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Premier Martial Arts and Krav Maga Martial Arts as well as experience in kickboxing, Jeet Kune Do and Jiujitsu. He was commissioned in 1992 and went on to serve in Germany with the 3rd Infantry Division and then in several other posts in the US until he left military service to pursue his dream of creating KMMA in 2000.
