Working Genius and Focusing Your Focus
For this wellness Wednesday I am going to share a little about Working Genius, and a related discussion about deciding.
Working Genius is a model based on the work of author and leadership guru Patrick Lencioni around what he calls The 6 Types of Working Genius.
I highly recommend the book to anyone in leadership or anyone just interested in learning a better way to understand your gifts, your frustration and your team.
You can learn more about the book, the model and even take an assessment at workinggenius.com
As I have already alluded to, it’s especially useful if you’re in a leadership position where you lead teams.
It will help you help them find the joy that comes from doing more of what you are created to do, and less of what you aren’t.
Team KMMA and I are having a Working Genius luncheon for staff training today. 🙂
On a related note, I have had two meetings today to help people with their roles and goals.
In both cases I started by figuring out what they really want– in the short and long term.
These are crucial questions.
Because we need to know that answer before we proceed with decisions and plans.
1. We want to make sure we are solving the right problems based on that answer and,
2. there’s nothing worse than working hard for something you don’t really want.
3. And, it is also true that we are always free to choose- what we are not free from is the consequences of that choice.
And that’s OK…
provided that the consequences are acceptable.
What’s not ok is to complain about the results from the choices and actions that we make and take; nor for me (or anyone) to impose my choices and values on someone else.
This the importance of first asking the questions.
Finally, if you haven’t seen my facebook live from this morning, you can watch it here if you’d like.
It may serve you well, for yourself or for someone you’d like to help.
There are lots of bad things happening the the world. I was thinking about how to help a loved one who gets overwhelmed by that.
So the video is about focusing our focus to best serve the people and areas of life most important to us.
Let me know if you like it.
